Rappahannock Electric Cooperative’s (REC) care for community goes beyond providing safe, reliable and affordable energy for its member-owners. It also includes empowering today’s youth to achieve their academic and career goals.

Every year, the Cooperative offers the Community Scholarship program to students who are seeking to advance their career goals by attending a college or a career and technical school. Two $2,500 and 15 $1,000 scholarships are awarded.

“Our annual scholarship program is one of the ways the Cooperative supports the community,” said Brian Wolfe, Senior Public Relations Specialist. “By providing these scholarships to 17 students, we’re investing in the future of our communities.”

The following local students each received a $2,500 scholarship:

  • Caroline Tryflates, Spotsylvania County – Virginia Wesleyan
  • Claire Groff, Louisa County – Louisa County High School

The following local students each received a $1,000 scholarship:

  • Nicholas Cheseldine, Hanover County – ECPI University
  • Christopher Stinson, Spotsylvania County – University of Miami
  • Lauren Cobb, Spotsylvania County – Massaponax High School
  • Emma McGehee, Louisa County – Louisa County High School
  • Samantha Whetzler, Stafford County – Mountain View High School

“We greatly congratulate each recipient of the 2022 Community Scholarship, and we wish them the best as they pursue their academic and career goals,” said Casey Hollins, Managing Director – Communications and Public Relations.
