From 7th District Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger

U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today invited high school students from Virginia’s Seventh District to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition, in which the winner’s piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside winning artwork from all 50 states.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. This annual contest is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the artistic talent of young Virginians. Full details and instructions can be found on Spanberger’s website.

“Each year, I’m impressed by the talent, creativity, and incredible skill obvious in the artwork submitted by Virginia’s students.” said Spanberger. “The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity for Congress to encourage high school students in Virginia and across our country to express themselves through art. The winning artwork will hang in a hallway that I walk through each day to get to the House floor, and I always look forward to seeing the masterpieces from Virginia and all 50 states. I hope many young Virginians will showcase their talent and share their masterpiece.”

Student entries may include paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, and photography. Any high school student who resides in Virginia’s Seventh District may submit one piece for consideration.

Students must drop off submissions to the Congresswoman’s Prince William County district office by 4:00pm on Friday, April 21, 2023.
