FAIRFAX- Slow-roll lane closures and periodic traffic stoppages of up to 30 minutes are scheduled to occur on north- and southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) at Georgetown Pike in McLean during overnight hours this Wednesday through Saturday (August 9-12) for utility relocation work. Stoppages will occur each night between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. Following each stoppage, all lanes will reopen to clear traffic in both directions before the next stoppage is implemented.
Additionally, periodic stoppages will also occur on the on- and off-ramps at the Georgetown Pike and I-495 interchange.
In the event of inclement weather, this operation will be postponed to the following night. Travelers should anticipate delays and consider taking an alternate route.
This work is part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project to extend the existing 495 Express Lanes from the Dulles Corridor interchange to the George Washington Memorial Parkway near the American Legion Bridge. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution when traveling through the 495 NEXT work zone.
