Swimming advisory lifted on Aquia Creek

by | Aug 31, 2023 | Health & Wellness

The Virginia Department of Health and Rappahannock Area Health District says the portion of Aquia Creek in Stafford that was under a swimming advisory from the crossing of Aquia Drive to Government Island due to a sewage spill has been reopened.

The section was closed last Friday due to a release of raw sewage in the area. The waterway has reopened for recreational activities.
The Rappahannock Area Health District has monitored water quality in the waterway since the raw sewage release occurred, and water sampling results confirm that the area is now safe for recreational water activities.
