Position Description:
Fredericksburg Academy is seeking a school nurse to provide care for our school community. We are looking for a caring, compassionate, experienced professional who enjoys being around children of all ages. The position requires administrative work as well as one-on-one time with students. We are looking for an individual who feels comfortable working with pre-school age students up through high school students. The school nurse helps educate our 80 faculty and staff on pertinent issues, responds to medical complaints/illnesses during the day, and performs routine screenings. There is both a 10 month and a 12 month employment option. This position reports to the Head of School.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited program of nursing:
LPN or RN preferred
ADN or a vocational RN accepted with experience
Holds a current, unencumbered license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia and be in good standing with the Virginia Board of Nursing
At least two years recent nursing experience
School Nurse, Emergency Nursing, Pediatric Nurse, or Community Health Nurse experience preferred
· Current certification in American Heart Association BLS or American Red Cross
o AHA or ARC First Aid / CPR/ AED Instructor certification preferred
· Must possess excellent organization and communication skills
· Reliable, ability to be on time and prepared
· Ability to interpret policies and guidelines (with training)
· Possess essential computer skills including email, excel, word processing, web-based programs, and database management
· Ability to lift and move equipment and materials up to 35 pounds
· Be able to manage all personal care and be independently mobile
· Must pass two Background Checks (OBI fingerprint & CRS background check)

Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain and adequately supervise the school health office, supplies, and health records
Provide nursing intervention for acute illness and injury of all students and staff and support student’s health needs for returning to class whenever possible
Effectively communicates with parent/guardian regarding school related health needs
Establish positive and supportive relationships with students, parents, and faculty
Administer and document treatments/medication administration in accordance with guideline from the Virginia Department of Education, Virginia Department of Social Services, and Fredericksburg Academy
Provide emergency assessment, triage, and treatment as first responder for faculty, staff, and students while coordinating care through EMS services and school administration
Assesses the health needs of students by observation, screening programs, and referral procedures and provides intervention as needed
Establishes and maintains standards of emergency care to minimize the effects of accidents and illness in the school
Supports school attendance for children who must use medication in the treatment of illness and chronic disabilities with nursing knowledge and skills
Maintains daily clinic records and prepare other required reports
Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws, and school policies and procedures
Arrange and execute training for faculty and staff to include, but not limited to CPR/First Aid/AED, Blood Borne Pathogens, Daily Health Observation, medication administration, etc.
Coordinates with faculty regarding medical needs of student on field trip
Maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance
Comply with all school policies and regulations
Maintains professional license and certifications
