World Class Distribution opens large warehouse in Carmel Church

by | Nov 1, 2023 | Business

The Caroline County Board of Supervisors has announced the opening and substantial completion of World Class Distribution’s 1.2 M square foot warehouse facility in Carmel Church. The facility is hiring 1,000 employees, making the company the largest employer in Caroline County. The business investment is one of the largest ever in Caroline at $275 Million.

A county presss release says the facility is rapidly ramping up hiring. Approximately four-hundred have been hired and are working on site while the last sections of the building’s interior are completed. The four-hundred employees exceed the company’s hiring goal for September by 120 employees.

The World Class Distribution project was announced last November for a facility to be built by Flint Development in the Caroline 95 Logistics Park in Ruther Glen. While the building has been under construction, World Class Distribution has added 255 jobs to the announced 745 positions for the project, which will make World Class Distribution the largest single employer in Caroline County.

“The opening of World Class Distribution is another step forward for the logistics industry in the Commonwealth, one of North America’s premier supply chain destinations,” said Governor Youngkin. “With plans to hire 1,000 employees, the company is well on its way and already providing opportunities for hardworking families in Caroline County. Virginia is proud to partner with World Class Distribution to provide consistency and security for our national supply chain, and we look forward to their success in the Commonwealth.”

“World Class Distribution is another major new business in Caroline, hiring more citizens, and creating even greater revenue for the County,” said Chairman Floyd Thomas, Supervisor for the Mattaponi District. “This is one of the businesses, along with the M.C. Dean’s 169,000 square foot expansion, the Lingerfelt 325,000 square foot building in Carmel Church, and the $6 Billion Amazon data center project near Thornburg that is making 2023 a banner development year for Caroline.”

“Caroline County is proud to be the host community for World Class Distribution’s 1,000 jobs distribution center project. World Class Distribution is another leading company bringing employment opportunity to Caroline County,” said Reginald Underwood, Caroline County Supervisor for the Reedy Church District. “Caroline County is adding over 1,200 jobs in 2023 alone between World Class Distribution, M.C. Dean and new retail stores on Rt. 639, all while preserving the beautiful rural character of the community.”

Founded in 2009, World Class Distribution is a subsidiary of TACT Holding Inc. and a leader in warehousing and distribution. WCD distributes food and beverage products, including canned foods, dry goods, sweets, groceries, beer and wine, frozen foods, and other refrigerated products. WCD manages 11 distribution centers throughout the United States, growing nationally to over 4,500 employees in eight states.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Caroline County to secure the project for Virginia. Governor Youngkin approved a $3 million grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist Caroline County with the project. World Class Distribution is eligible to receive benefits from the Major Business Facility Job Tax Credit for new, full-time jobs created.
