Fredericksburg Police Department achieves fifth national re-accreditation

by | Nov 16, 2023 | Police and Fire

The Fredericksburg Police Department has announced they’ve been nationally reaccredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law
Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), which sets the gold standard and best practices in public safety. Chief Layton says maintaining national accreditation is essential to the Department’s mission to provide exceptional public safety services to the City of Fredericksburg.

“Achieving national accreditation is challenging. It takes a significant amount of time and requires employees to hold themselves to the highest standards in public safety, which continue to evolve. I am beyond proud of the team that worked diligently over the last four years to ensure we complied with CALEA
standards and the entire Department for following suit,” said Chief Layton.

The Fredericksburg Police Department first received accreditation in 2009, and out of 340 law enforcement agencies in Virginia, only 38 agencies are CALEA accredited
