VDOT crews will monitor for refreeze in the morning

by | Dec 11, 2023 | Traffic

VDOT crews will patrol Interstate 95 and state-maintained roads across the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula Tuesday morning ahead of the commuter rush hour to treat for icy, slick road conditions that may develop from wet pavement refreezing overnight.

Crews will focus especially on elevated surfaces more likely to experience icing, such as ramps, bridges, and overpasses, which have lower surface temperatures.

Travelers are advised to check 511Virginia for road conditions along their entire route before beginning a trip. If driving on Tuesday morning, plan to use additional caution. Allow extra travel time, reduce speed, and add following distance between vehicles to increase reaction time. Motorists traveling in low-lying areas should stay alert for standing water or ponded water that may have frozen overnight.

Spot a road hazard? Report it to VDOT’s Customer Service Center 24 hours a day at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623) or online at my.vdot.virginia.gov.
