An unnamed suspect was taken into custody by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office Thursday after allegedly approaching two students at a Spotswood Elementary School bus stop.

According to an email to parents from Interim Superintendent Kelly Guempel, the two students were waiting for the bus to arrive Thursday morning when they were approached. The students reported the incident to the bus driver who informed the school administration and the school resource officer.

The resource officer went to the neighborhood and located the alleged suspect. Parents of students on that particular bus were contacted by school administration.

In Guempel’s email, he highlighted that the students “did a great job following safety measures and reporting the incident.”

Guempel thanked the Sheriff’s Office for a timely response and reminded parents and guardians to be present at bus stops each morning and afternoon to ensure student safety.
