by | Mar 9, 2024 | Ted Schubel, Traffic

VDOT says crews will complete safety improvements on Brock Road in Spotsylvania during March to improve motorist sight distance between Piney Branch Road and Cherokee Lane.

Crews will cut down a crest in the road to improve sight distance for vehicles entering Brock Road from Piney Branch Road and Cherokee Lane. Two drainage pipes will also be replaced underneath Brock Road between Cherokee Lane and Gordon Road.

These maintenance activities have been scheduled to occur before the shoulders of Brock Road are slightly widened between Catharpin Road and Gordon Road later this year, followed by paving.

To complete this work, Brock Road will close for approximately two weeks starting March 11 through March 25 between Piney Branch Road and Cherokee Lane. The road will close at 7 a.m. on March 11 and reopen by 4 p.m. on March 25, weather permitting.

Brock Road will be closed to through traffic between Piney Branch Road and Cherokee Lane. Signs will guide motorists along the recommended detour, which will be:

  • Brock Road
  • Gordon Road
  • Harrison Road
  • Old Plank Road
  • Catharpin Road
  • Brock Road

View an online map of the detour, which is approximately 16 miles.

Access to residential driveways along the closed sections of Brock Road will be maintained at all times.

Message boards have been posted to notify motorists about the upcoming closure.

Work has been scheduled to occur weather permitting. For updated information on lane closures and work zone locations before starting a trip, check 511Virginia.
