If you’re traveling around the Richmond area this weekend, you could encounter delays

VDOT in the Richmond area says work continues this weekend to replace the bridge on East Broad Street (Route 250) over I-95 in the City of Richmond.

Weather permitting, the second weekend closure is scheduled for Friday, March 15 at 8 p.m. through Monday, March 18 at 6 a.m. The northbound and southbound travel lanes of I-95 at mile marker 74 will be reduced to one lane in each direction continuously.

VDOT says you can expect the following closures:

  • Exit 74B (I-95 South to Franklin Street)
  • Westbound ramp from Broad Street to I-95
  • Ramp from Broad Street to I-95 South

Access to pedestrians on Broad Street will remain available.

This work will be completed during a series of weekend closures that began on March 8. “We are looking forward to our second weekend of bridge replacement work on Broad Street over Interstate 95. While there may be traffic delays, we’re implementing Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) methods to reduce onsite construction time and minimize inconvenience for travelers”, said District Mega Projects Engineer Scott Fisher. ABC consists of building the new bridge off-site and replacing a section of the old with a newly constructed section of the bridge. Future closure dates for the impacted weekends will be communicated as the project progresses.

Fisher says detours will be implemented to direct motorists around the work zone. Motorists traveling through the Richmond area should use I-295, I-195, Route 288, and Route 1/301 to avoid significant delays.
