Taylor’s tenure as Spotsylvania superintendent officially over

by | Mar 20, 2024 | ALLFFP, Schools & Education, Spotsylvania

One week after the Spotsylvania County School Board voted to terminate the contract of Superintendent Mark Taylor, the short-lived tenure for the controversial division leader officially ended.

Spotsylvania County Public Schools sent out an email Wednesday afternoon alerting parents that Taylor’s termination was effective this past Tuesday.

Virginia law mandated that Taylor receive an appeals hearing, and the board voted to grant him the hearing during the same meeting his dismissal was announced. An email from the school division last week stated that Taylor would remain on administrative leave until the hearing was completed.

The school board will hold a special meeting March 25 at 6 p.m. to determine the next steps in its search for a superintendent.

At the meeting, the board will consult with legal counsel regarding contract matters, and also discuss the award of a public contract for the provision of professional services.

Comments from Board Chair Lorita Daniels, Interim Superintendent Kelly Guempel and other board members will be allowed after closed session. There will be no public comment. The agenda will be posted to the school division’s website three days before the meeting.
