Pedestrian killed crossing Patriot Highway

A West Virginia man was struck and killed while walking in the 10400 block of Patriot Highway Monday night.

The 51-year-old victim, identified as James Corsa, was transported to Mary Washington Hospital where he died from his injuries.

A 61-year-old man from Connecticut was driving the vehicle that struck Corsa. He was not injured and remained on the scene.

At 11:30 p.m. Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the scene of the incident. An investigation revealed that Corsa was crossing the highway wearing all dark clothing at the time of the crash. He was not in a crosswalk area and the area was not well lit, according to Spotsylvania authorities.

The accident was investigated by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team, and no charges will be filed.

Sheriff Roger Harris expressed condolences to all impacted by the incident.
