Boil Water Advisory in Caroline

by | Apr 18, 2024 | Government, Ted Schubel

Caroline County residents are being asked to boil all tap water for safety following a water main break.  The Caroline Department of Public Utilities advises all customers of its water system to boil their tap water for at least a minute before drinking, cooking or making ice with it until further notice.

The county says a water main break was caused by a contractor while installing underground utilities. According to a press release, boiling tap water during this time will ensure any bacteria or organisms that may have polluted the water are killed.

If you cannot boil your tap water:

  • Stir in 8 drops (or 1/4 teaspoon) of recently purchased, unscented, liquid household bleach that is free of additives per gallon of water. Allow to sit for at least 30 minutes before using.
  • Use water purification tablets.

These areas are asked to follow this guidance:

  • Carmel Church
  • Belmont
  • Caroline Pines
  • MC Dean

No word on how long the boil advisory will be in effect.  Those with questions can contact the Caroline County Department of Public Utilities at 804-633-4390.
