A crash in Spotsylvania County involving a train and a vehicle resulted in the death of a Fredericksburg man Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred at 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 636 (Mine Road) and State Route 608 (Benchmark Road).

Virginia State Police reported that a 2013 Chevrolet Impala was traveling east on Mine when the driver disregarded railroad crossing arms, which were down symbolizing an approaching train. As the driver attempted to cross the railroad tracks, his vehicle collided with a southbound Amtrak train. The train remained on the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Aaron Krebs, 55, died at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt. There were no reported injuries on the train.

The crash remains under investigation by the state police.
