The FredNats secured a series split with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers after a 6-2 victory Sunday at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.

The FredNats went ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning following a line drive single by Brandon Pimentel scoring Phillip Glasser. Their lead was 2-0 after Jose Colmenares’ sacrifice fly scoring Elijah Green.

Fredericksburg starter Travis Sthele was efficient with the two-run lead. He allowed just one baserunner in the second inning, and worked around a single and a walk in the third to hold on to the 2-0 edge.

The FredNats’ lead increased to 3-0 in the bottom of the third after Brenner Cox plated Pimentel. Sthele wrapped up his afternoon with a scoreless fourth.

After Nata Ochoa scored on a passed ball for a 4-0 lead, the FredNats scored their final two runs of the day as Pimentel drove home Green and Everett Cooper III to provide a 6-0 cushion.

The Fredericksburg bullpen finished off the Woodpeckers with reliever Mason Denaburg’s two scoreless innings as a highlight.

The FredNats hit the road next week for a six-game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds, beginning Tuesday.
