UMW announces increases in tuition and fees

by | Apr 23, 2024 | ALLFFP, Schools & Education, University of Mary Washington

The University of Mary Washington will increase tuition by 2% for undergraduate and graduate students, effective this upcoming fall semester.

The increases were approved by UMW’s Board of Visitors during its quarterly meeting on April 19. In addition to the rise in tuition, the school’s “auxiliary comprehensive fee” will increase by 3%.

According to a press release from UMW, the decision follows several years of no increases for in-state undergraduate tuition. The release stated that the “small increase” is still below the rate of inflation and is needed to support state-mandated compensation actions for faculty and staff and to ensure academic programs and the campus environment are beneficial to students.

Starting this fall, UMW will offer a tuition promise for Pell grant-eligible Virginia students. School officials believe this will close any gap in tuition funding for in-state students who qualify for Federal Pell Grants.
