by | May 2, 2024 | Ted Schubel, Traffic

VDOT says the I-95 Southbound Safety Rest Area in Fredericksburg will close overnight for three evenings during the next week to allow crews to mill and pave the entrance and exit ramps, and the interstate shoulder.
The rest area will be closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. on the following nights:
  • Thursday, May 2-Friday, May 3
  • Sunday, May 5-Monday, May 6
  • Monday, May 6-Tuesday, May 7
If backup work dates are needed, the Rest Area would be closed between 9 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7-Wednesday May 8, and Wednesday, May 8-Thursday, May 9.
VDOT will also be paving the I-95 southbound local lanes in this area. Between the southern end of the Rappahannock River bridge and exit 130 (Route 3), varying single to double lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. starting Thursday, May 2, and continuing on Sunday-Thursday evenings next week as needed.
For one evening, the off-ramp from the I-95 southbound local lanes to exit 130A (Fredericksburg) to Route 3 eastbound will close overnight. This off-ramp is scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 7 to 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8. Motorists should use exit 130B to Route 3 westbound toward Culpeper, and U-turn where permitted to reach Route 3 eastbound.
