Brief delays on Brooke Road in Stafford for slope repair projects starting this Tuesday

VDOT says a planned maintenance project to stabilize a slope that supports Route 608 (Brooke Road) in Stafford County between Camp Geary Lane and Marlborough Point Road will be underway from late May through July.

Traffic on Brooke Road will be permitted to pass through the work zone at all times. However, drivers can expect brief delays.

VDOT contractor crews will mobilize in the work zone on Tuesday, May 21. During the project’s first three days, a flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic on Brooke Road and Camp Geary Lane near the Brooke Road intersection. You can expect brief delays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday thru Thursday this week.

On Thursday a temporary traffic signal will be installed in the work zone. The signal will then direct one-way, alternating traffic 24 hours a day until the project is complete in July.

VDOT has hired a contractor to use a soil nail installer to create a retaining wall to support Brooke Road. The soil nail installer will drill holes beneath the road and insert steel rods approximately 20 ft. long into the ground. The rods are covered with a mesh wire net and anchored with bolts. The entire surface is then covered with a concrete material. A similar slope stabilization project was completed on a nearby section of Brooke Road in 2018.

VDOT’s Kelly Hannon says work has been scheduled to occur weather permitting. She says for updated information on lane closures, check 511Virginia.org.
