A Stafford County man was arrested by Fredericksburg police officers after an alleged abduction attempt of a 5-year-old girl Sunday afternoon during the Latino Festival at the Fredericksburg Fairgrounds.
A deputy with the Fredericksburg Sheriff’s Office was working the event when he was approached by a woman who said she witnessed a male attempt to physically lead the girl into the men’s restroom.
Patrol officers and a detective responded to the fairgrounds to interview the witness and the girl’s family. The family told law enforcement they did not know the alleged offender.
Witnesses described the man to officers and they were able to quickly locate him.
Gerardo Amayo Sosa, 46, was apprehended and charged with abduction. He is incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail with no bond.
