The 34th annual Rappahannock Riverfest is set to take place this Saturday from 3-7 p.m. It will be held at the McDaniels Property on Sophia Street, adjacent to the historic Fredericksburg City Dock.
Riverfest is being held by the Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR), a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and preserving the Rappahannock River. FOR’s efforts consist of education, advocacy, and hands-on restoration projects with local communities, empowering them to care for their river.
Since FOR hosted its first festival in 1991, Rappahannock Riverfest has been a cornerstone of the nonprofit’s fundraising efforts, growing steadily in popularity, size and impact. Decades later, it continues to bring together the community for a day to celebrate, eat food and enjoy music and activities, all in support of the Rappahannock River.
Here’s what you can expect to eat, imbibe and enjoy at Riverfest this year:
- Local fare such as fresh crabs and mouth-watering BBQ from Bilikens, served with a variety of local sides and beverages.
- Live music: Local bands will be playing alongside the scenic views of the river.
- Raffles and auctions: There will be unique items and experiences to bid on, with all proceeds going directly to FOR’s river conservation efforts.
- Community spirit: Local supporters, environmental advocates and friends of the Rappahannock River will be available to meet and mingle.
All the proceeds from the event will go towards helping fund FOR programs and initiatives to protect the Rappahannock River. These efforts include educational programs, river cleanups, habitat restoration projects, and advocacy for sustainable policies.
