A train struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday afternoon in the 200 block of Lafayette Boulevard, near the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) station.
According to a Facebook post from the Fredericksburg Police Department, the incident took place at 4:25 p.m., and rail travel was temporarily suspended in the area while authorities — including Amtrak Police — investigated. As of 6 p.m. Saturday, the pedestrian had not been identified, said Fredericksburg Police Department spokesperson Jessica Carter.
“We do not know the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Carter wrote in an email to the Free Press.
Carter added that more information would be released once the pedestrian’s next of kin was notified.
