Downtown Fredericksburg today will celebrate its numerous small businesses.
On the heels of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday is more focused on mom-and-pop local businesses. An array of activities are planned today to draw people downtown and encourage them to shop at the 40-something participating businesses in Downtown Fredericksburg.
Among the events planned for downtown today are:
- Early Bird Specials: Some participating businesses opened early and offered special deals and discounts from 8-10 a.m.
- Hot Cocoa Stations: These stations are sprinkled throughout Downtown Fredericksburg today
- Live Radio Broadcast: Superhits 95.9 will be broadcasting live from Downtown Fredericksburg today
- Skating: A synthetic ice skating rink has been set up at Riverfront Park near the new 30-foot Christmas tree. The rink was also available Friday night, and it will be operational today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Walk-up tickets are $10 for those 13 and up, and $5 for those 12 and under; the price includes the skate rental.
Fredericksburg Main Street Executive Director Chris Allen encouraged people to take part in the events.
“Shopping local is so important for downtown,” Allen told Ted Schubel this week. “It’s what keeps our downtown thriving and a great place to be, and we can’t do that without the support of the community.”
