by | May 14, 2025 | Government, Spotsylvania, Ted Schubel

Spotsylvania County will begin a Pilot Yard Waste Collection Program at both the Berkeley and Chancellor Convenience Centers starting on May 16th to determine if these services can safely be provided at these facilities without endangering the public or county employees. Persons utilizing the yard waste area must have a valid driver’s license and have a Spotsylvania County refuse decal on the vehicle making the delivery.

Yard waste is defined as brush, leaves, grass, shrubs, and limbs all of which must be under 6” in diameter, less than 6’ long, and less than 4’ in load height. Materials and loads exceeding yard waste limits qualify as clearing debris.

Clearing debris is defined as wood waste greater than 6″ in diameter and over 6′ long, bulk wood chips, and bulk leaf collection. Clearing debris is not accepted at any convenience center and must be taken to the Livingston Landfill, Sunday-Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Clearing debris must be clean with no stumps, no logs greater than 18″ in diameter, and/or over 12′ in length. Clearing debris may be subject to a tipping charge.

The county says items that will not be accepted is any yard waste greater than 6” in diameter or 6’ in length, loads taller than 4’ as measured from the deck, any yard contaminated (with trash, metal, or dirt), pallets, dimensional lumber, bulk wood chips, construction/demolition debris, or any item identified by any Spotsylvania County Staff member upon delivery.

Residents may make one load delivery per day to ensure that the service is available to all residents. If multiple loads are needed in a single day then these loads must be taken to the Livingston Landfill.

Delivery of material can be made in a residential vehicle displaying a valid residential decal. Single and double axle trailers, including dump, 14’ or less in length with sides not exceeding 30”, including side boards, will be allowed. Enclosed trailers may be allowed for the disposal of yard waste at the discretion of Spotsylvania County as long as the trailer does not exceed length limits and the total estimated load size does not exceed 8′ by 14′ by 4′ (450 cubic feet).

Not permitted at Chancellor and Berkeley Convenience Centers:

  • Trailers over 14′
  • Trailers with sides greater then 30″, including side boards (high side trailers of any size)
