- Kalahari Resorts will hold an on-site “Ceremonial Steel Signing” event Wednesday afternoon to celebrate progress on the 1.38 million-square-foot Thornburg resort. Kalahari CEO Todd Nelson and government officials are expected to be among the attendees at the topping-out ceremony. Kalahari is expected to open the resort and 150,000-square-foot convention center in late 2026.
- An approximately 3.8-million-square-foot data center project is proposed along State Route 3 in Stafford County, not far from the King George County line and the Little Falls Run wastewater treatment plant. The project is proposed on about 447 acres of land on both sides of State Route 3 in the area of Albion Lane and Layover Lane. A conditional use permit, rezoning and Comprehensive Plan compliance review are required (the application is split, with separate approvals sought for the projects on the north and south side of State Route 3).
- Kilwins, a popular national franchise specializing in chocolate, fudge and ice cream, is coming to downtown Fredericksburg. Sisters Jenna Bowen and Sandra Duff plan to open a Kilwins location in a 2,200-square-foot space at 721 Caroline St. An opening date has not yet been determined.
- There were 171 homes sold last week in the Fredericksburg region, according to the Fredericksburg Area Association of Realtors, including seven for more than $1 million. Check back weekly for the new list.
- Hooky Entertainment Inc. is the owner of the bowling and movie complex at the Spotsylvania Towne Centre (STC). Texas-based ES Vedra Entertainment (doing business as EVO Entertainment) took over ownership of the complex in January 2024 and recently decided to re-brand itself as Hooky, said Joe Bell, director of corporate communications for STC owner Cafaro. Hooky also has locations in Florida, North Carolina and Texas.
- Manny’s Moon Pizza is now open at 1924 Richmond Highway in Stafford (former location of Family Pizzeria).
- BANG! Music in North Stafford is the focus of this week’s Biz Beat Clips video.
- Hirschler attorney Charlie Payne is the guest on this week’s edition of the Biz Beat Banter podcast.
- A Wawa is planned on the northeast corner of the intersection of Harrison and Salem Church roads in Spotsylvania County (diagonally across from the 7-Eleven). Construction has not yet started; the current activity on site is related to a Spotsylvania water-line project.
- Two local businesses were recognized in Northern Virginia Magazine’s annual “Best of NoVA 2025” readers’ choice picks. Braehead Farm in Fredericksburg finished runner-up in the “Pick-Your-Own Farm or Orchard” category, while Belvedere Plantation in Spotsylvania won the “Pumpkin Patch” category.

- A gift store called Tater’s Corner is excepted to open soon at 89 Chatham Heights Road in Stafford.
- Artful Dimensions Gallery is moving this month from 922 Caroline St. in Downtown Fredericksburg down the street to a temporary home at 1025 Caroline St. The gallery continues to look for a longer-term home.
- A Wendy’s location recently opened at 5 Burns Corner Place in Stafford.
- A Wingstop location recently opened at 1495 Stafford Market Place in Stafford.
- A rezoning request has been submitted in Spotsylvania for a mixed-use community on an 80-acre property known as the Corthon farm across U.S. 1 from the Kalahari Resorts site. The plan calls for up to 163 single-family detached homes, 62 townhouses, and 130,000 square feet of commercial space. The applicant is affiliated with Lincoln Avenue Communities, whose mission includes investing in affordable housing.
- A solar energy facility is proposed on a 25-acre property in Stafford on the west side of Interstate 95 about 225 feet south of the end of Wyatt Lane. A conditional use permit and Comprehensive Plan compliance review are required.
- Mary Washington Healthcare has been recognized as a 2024 Wellbeing First Champion by ALL IN: Wellbeing First for Healthcare. As a Wellbeing First Champion, MWHC has verified that credentialing applications are free from intrusive and stigmatizing language around mental health care and treatment.
- A rezoning has been requested that would allow a two-story home at 801 Telegraph Road in Stafford to be used as an office.
- A MooThru ice cream trailer has opened at the Meadows Farms landscape and garden center at 5043 Plank Road in Spotsylvania County. MooThru operates popular ice cream shops in Remington and Lake Anna.
- Vestige Village Marketplace recently opened at 20 Plantation Drive in Stafford.
