Exit 118 (Thornburg) to Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Alternating lane closures between mile markers 121-126 for milling and paving mobile operation.

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to 143 (Garrisonville Road)

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m.- 4:30 a.m. Alternating lane closures for milling and paving between mile markers 140-142.

Interstate 95 Southbound

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) Off-Ramp

Sunday – Saturday, 7 p.m.-10 a.m. Alternating single lane closures on the off-ramp to Route 1. Final construction activities to widen the ramp and build an additional right turn lane to Route 1 southbound.

Caroline County

Route 1

Sunday – Tuesday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Alternating lane closures for milling and paving between Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) and Route 601 (Golansville Road).

Route 2 (Main Street)

Closed to through traffic between Chase Street/Milford Street and Courthouse Lane for a town utility project through Monday, June 30, weather permitting. Route 2 travelers should follow the posted detour route using Route 207/Route 301 and East Broaddus Avenue.

Route 601 (Penola Road)

Friday, June 6 at 6 p.m. until 11:59 p.m. Monday, June 9. Road closure at CSX railroad crossing between Polecat Creek Bridge and Polecat Lane. Railroad maintenance by CSX. Follow the posted detour route.

Secondary Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Road resurfacing. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic along the following routes:

  • Route 657 (Telegraph Road)
  • Route 659 (Palace Green Road)
  • Route 741 (Faulkner Lane)

City of Fredericksburg

Fall Hill Avenue

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Alternating lane closures between Route 1 and Bridgewater Street. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.

Lafayette Boulevard

Monday – Wednesday, 4 a.m. – 6 a.m. Alternating lane closures between St. Pauls Street and Kensington Place for paving work.

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m.-2 p.m., except for Friday, when all lanes will reopen by noon. Right lane closure on Lafayette Boulevard between Twin Lake Drive and St. Paul Street. Two travel lanes, with one lane open in each direction, will be maintained by slightly shifting vehicles traveling south into a dual turn lane.

Secondary Road Resurfacing

Monday – Wednesday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Road resurfacing. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic along the following routes:

Route 1 at Arcadia Road

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. All travel lanes will remain open, but the alignment of the Route 1 travel lanes has shifted slightly between Arcadia Road and Mudd Tavern Road for road improvement work connected with the Kalahari Resorts & Conventions development. Permit work. Construction will also be underway along the road shoulder.

Route 1 at I-95

Sunday – Monday, 10 p.m.-5 a.m. Traffic signal work at the Route 1 and I-95 intersection at the exit 126 interchange. Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection.

Route 1 at Southpoint Parkway

Sunday – Thursday, 7 p.m.-7 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m.-6 a.m. Alternating single lane closures on Route 1 between the I-95 southbound off-ramp and Southpoint Parkway. Final construction activities.

Route 1 Northbound

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m.- 5 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m.-6 a.m. Alternating single lane closures on Route 1 northbound between Southpoint Parkway and Market Street for construction.

Monday – Thursday, 8 p.m.- 6 a.m. Mobile operation with alternating lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound between the Ni River bridge and Filter Lane for milling and paving.

Sunday, 10 p.m.-5 am, Monday – Thursday, 7:30 p.m.-5 a.m., and Friday, 11 p.m.-5 a.m. Flagging at the intersection of Route 1 and S. Roxbury Mill Road and Food Lion entrance for paving.

Monday – Friday, 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Single lane closure on Route 2 between Benchmark Road and Pierson Drive. Installation of water main under permit.

Route 608 (Massaponax Church Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single lane closure between Hickory Hill Drive and Summit Crossing Road with one-way, alternating traffic. Installation of water main under permit.

Route 610 (Old Plank Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.Single lane closure between Lewis Thornburg Road and Pullen Drive with one-way, alternating traffic. Installation of a roundabout under permit.

Route 607 (Cool Springs Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single lane closures between Route 3 Business and Route 218 (White Oak Road). Fiber installation under permit.

Route 1707 (South Gateway Drive)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. One-way alternating lane closure with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone for guardrail removal along the following routes:

Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. Trench widening work between Poplar Road and Mountain View Road. Flaggers will alternate one-way traffic through the work zone.

Additional Projects in Fredericksburg District

Caroline County

Route 2 (Main Street) Closure in Town of Bowling Green

Main Street in the Town of Bowling Green in Caroline County is closed to through traffic between Chase Street/Milford Street and Courthouse Lane for a town utility project. Main Street will be closed until Monday, June 30, weather permitting. Route 2 travelers should follow the posted detour route using Route 207/Route 301 and East Broaddus Avenue.

Route 638 (South River Road) Bridge Replacement

Construction is underway to replace the Route 638 (South River Road) bridge over South River. A portion of South River Road is closed with a detour in place. The project will be complete by Sept. 2025.

City of Fredericksburg

Route 1 at Fall Hill Avenue, and

Route 1 at Princess Anne Street and Hanson Avenue

Intersection improvement projects are underway on Route 1 at the intersections with Fall Hill Avenue and Princess Anne Street/Hanson Avenue. Construction will be complete by June 2026. Intermittent single lane and shoulder closures will be needed at times, but most lane closures will occur overnight, and outside of peak weekday commute times.

Lafayette Boulevard at Twin Lakes/Kensington

Construction is underway on a $2.4 million bicycle and pedestrian connector project. Most construction will occur on the road shoulders and outside of the travel lanes. The project will be complete by Nov. 2025.

Spotsylvania County

I-95 Southbound Exit 126 Off-Ramp and Route 1 Southbound

A second right turn lane is under construction from the I-95 southbound off-ramp at exit 126 onto Route 1 southbound. Route 1 southbound widened from the off-ramp to Southpoint Parkway with an additional turn lane. A second right turn lane is built from Route 1 southbound to Southpoint Parkway. Traffic islands are installed along Southpoint Parkway as a safety improvement to allow left turns into driveways but restrict through and left-turning traffic exiting from side streets. Project completion is anticipated in June 2025.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Widening

Mudd Tavern Road is being widened to four lanes between I-95 and Route 1. A new secondary access route, Route 2092, is under construction parallel to Mudd Tavern Road and will connect with South Roxbury Mill Road and Dan Bell Lane. Project completion was scheduled for late May 2025, but construction will continue into June 2025. Updates will be posted to the project page.

Route 620 (Harrison Road) Reconstruction and Widening

Harrison Road is being widened to four lanes between Gordon Road and Old Plank Road. The project will build a center turn lane along Harrison Road and additional through travel lanes at the Old Plank Road and Gordon Road intersections, and extend the current turn lanes at these intersections. Sidewalks will be built along Harrison Road, and pedestrian crossing signal equipment and crosswalks will be added at the Old Plank Road and Gordon Road intersections. Project completion late summer 2026.
