Safe driving in treacherous weather

— The ground is saturated and more rain is expected—raising the risk of additional trees falling. Please stay alert, especially in wooded areas or during periods of heavy rain.

–Virginia Code § 46.2-1030: Headlights are required anytime it is raining, regardless of the time of day. A helpful rule of thumb: if your windshield wipers are on, your headlights should be too.

–Virginia Code § 46.2-816: This code addresses following too closely. During inclement weather, please increase the distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you. This allows for safer braking and reduces the risk of collisions.

–Additionally, please make sure your vehicle is properly maintained, including having adequate tire tread and functioning lights.
