The King George County Tea Party is hosting a forum for candidates on the ballot in the upcoming election.
The event will be held Thursday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 10640 Kings Highway,. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the forum scheduled to start at 6 p.m. A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will also be held.
Tabernacle Baptist Pastor, the Rev. Sherman Davis, said Democrat and Republican candidates were invited to participate, including gubernatorial candidates Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (Republican) and former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger (Democrat).
Davis said he does not know who will show up until the day of the event. Local King George candidates include incumbent board of supervisors representative Cathy Binder of the Shiloh District; Shawn Palivoda and Bryan Metts who will battle for the James Monroe District seat on the board of supervisors; and State Del. Hilary Pugh Kent (R-67th District). Republican attorney general candidate Jason Miyares and Lt. Gov. candidate John Reid, also a Republican, were also invited. The Democrat candidates for those positions were not decided until last week’s primary.
King George School Board candidates include Rachel Scott and Carrie Cleveland of the Shiloh and James Monroe districts, respectively.
