Gov. Glenn Youngkin has appointed a new member of the University of Mary Washington’s Board of Visitors and renewed the terms of two current members.

Gregory Chambers, a 1984 Mary Washington alumnus and executive director of CRA Research LLC in Fredericksburg, will join the board. In addition, the terms of UMW alumnae Rachel Greszler, a senior research fellow in The Heritage Foundation’s Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies, and Terrie Suit, retired CEO of Virginia Realtors, were renewed.

In his lead role with CRA Research, Chambers supports local businesses and organizations with systems engineering and project management. He has more than 40 years of leadership and management in the defense and aerospace industry, in both the federal government and private sector, with expertise in prototype design, development, training and systems deployment to military forces.

Chambers formerly served as chief engineer and deputy program manager for Intelligence Systems at the U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command at Quantico. There, he received the Commander’s Excellence in Engineering Award and the U.S. Marine Corps’ Meritorious Civilian Service Award.

Chambers served previously as a lead project engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, designing environmental systems, guided projectile prototypes and nuclear, biological and chemical prototype detectors. He also spent six years as a combat engineer in the Virginia Army National Guard.

Chambers serves as president of the Central Virginia chapter of the International Council of Systems Engineers, which supports STEM in local schools and universities. He was a longtime member of the Fredericksburg Regional Alliance, STEM 16 Steering Committee, promoting STEM learning in area schools. And he served as a visiting research scientist at the University of Virginia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science, where he recommended research topics based on Department of Defense requirements.

Chambers earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Mary Washington, a master’s degree in business administration from Averett University and a doctorate in business administration from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He holds multiple certificates from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, along with a certificate in corporate governance from the Wharton School, and he is a certified program management professional.
