The board’s retreat will take place Monday at 2 p.m. at the Virginia School Board Association, 200 Hansen Road, Charlottesville. The board will work on defining its team, building trust, and active listening, among other topics. On Tuesday, at the same location, the board will receive Master Board governance training in which it will perform a self-evaluation and set goals and priorities for the upcoming school year.

Fredericksburg

School board regular meeting, Monday, 7:30 p.m.

The school board will discuss one-time retention bonuses to be awarded from $377,819 in state-provided funds. The bonuses, which will be paid on Aug. 28, go to all permanent employees who have reported to work by Aug. 15 of the 2025-26 school year… A year after FCPS first announced its cell phone ban, the division is tweaking a regulation concerning the devices: students will no longer be suspended solely for cell phone violations.

City council work session/regular meeting, Tuesday 5:30/7:30 p.m.

The raised intersection project comes as the result of findings from the downtown traffic study and would include ADA-compliant warning pads and curb extensions. The city’s share of the project, which is being explored as part of VDOT’s Transporation Alternatives Program, would be $112,275… City council will also hold a joint work session with the economic development authority to discuss development along State Routes 1 and 3, otherwise known as the city’s “commerical corridors.”

School board regular meeting, Monday, 5:30 p.m.

The cellphone policy established by the school board will be updated to reflect amendments to state law. The updates will require the school board to adopt cellphone restrictions at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Planning commission meeting, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.

The commission will revisit conversations from earlier this year about a 356-acre data center campus in the State Route 3 West settlement area. The commission deferred action on the project presented by applicant Green Energy Ventures (GEV). GEV is seeking to rezone four parcels from Agricultural Preservation to Industrial.

If rezoned, GEV will request a special exception to construct a data center campus and ask for more than one access point to a roadway.

Spotsylvania County

Board of supervisors regular meeting, Tuesday, 5 p.m.

The Virginia Heritage Homeowners Association is disgruntled with the board of supervisors and will make a presentation on Tuesday. In August, the board pledged to find a solution for Virginia Heritage residents in a dispute with builder Lennar over its work in the 55-and-over residential subdivision. More than 150 residents attended a July 2025 board of supervisors meeting and many expressed concern that a previous board released bonds to Lennar for work that was subpar.
