LISTEN: Fredericksburg SPCA talks about pets in hot weather

by | Jul 25, 2025 | Non-Profits, Region, Ted Schubel, Weather

Pet owners are advised to walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening, avoiding midday heat when sidewalks and pavement can become hot enough to burn sensitive paw pads.

SPCA of Fredericksburg warns that heatstroke in pets can develop rapidly. Symptoms include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, and discolored gums. Without quick intervention, it can lead to collapse or death.  And they have a zero tolerance message for leaving animals in vehicles–even briefly.    fredspca.org
