A public hearing will be held for the supervisors to consider amending the schedule of fees and levies for public utilities. On Sept. 1, the base fees for water and sewer, water and sewer usage rates, the administrative fee and capital asset fee will increase by 5%. The septage fee will increase from $36.75 to $116 per 1,000 gallons. Also, on Sept. 1, the one equivalent residential connection base fee for sewer, administrative fee and capital asset feet for the Dawn Wastewater System will increase by 5%. In addition, on July 1 of the next four years, the base fees for water and sewer, water and sewer usage rates, the administrative fee and capital asset fee, septage and equivalent residential connection fee will increase by 5% each year.

Since last November, county officials have considered changes to the county’s zoning ordinance. Last fall, the board of supervisors initiated amendments to the county code to increase minimum lot sizes in land zoned agricultural. The Fredericksburg Area Association of Realtors spoke out against the proposal. This past February, the board appointed seven citizens to a Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment Committee (ZOTAC) that was tasked with developing future growth scenarios in the agricultural district. The ZOTAC met six times in two months and shared their recommendation with the board of supervisors in May. The supervisors made their final recommendation for amendments to bring to the planning commission. A planning commission public hearing is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. A board of supervisors public hearing is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m.

The school board will formally recognize Christine Culberson, a technology and engineering CTE instructor at Battlefield Middle School. Culberson was named Teacher of the Year by the Virginia Business Educators Association and the Virginia Technology Engineering Association.

The supervisors tasked the planning commission with providing recommendations on data center development standards. County staff conducted a work session with the planning commission on April 16 and drafted an ordinance to reflect the standards recommended by the commission. Staff will present a draft ordinance to the supervisors for discussion and will take direction from them on the next steps forward. Data center construction being by-right in certain zones has been a hotly debated topic in the county this year.
