Range testing at Dahlgren; Loud noise and river access restrictions expected

by | Sep 3, 2025 | King George, Military, Ted Schubel

Residents in the Dahlgren area may hear loud noise the rest of the week as the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) conducts scheduled range testing 8am-5pm thru Friday.

The testing, which involves live-fire weapons systems, may produce very loud noise audible in communities surrounding Naval Support Facility Dahlgren. The Potomac River Middle Danger Zone, as defined by 33 CFR 334.230, will be restricted during the testing periods, with no public access allowed.

Officials noted that testing schedules are subject to change, sometimes with little notice due to weather, safety, or operational requirements.

Community members can stay informed by calling the NSWCDD Range and Weapons Testing hotline at (877) 845-5656 for daily updates, or by visiting the Potomac River Test Range website at:
