A small white terrier was found injured and abandoned in the Belmont subdivision of Carmel Church, prompting an animal cruelty investigation by the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office says Animal Control Deputy M. Bullock responded to the scene after a concerned citizen reported the dog wandering the neighborhood in distress. The dog was transported to a local veterinary clinic, where it was discovered that tight bands had been deliberately wrapped around its muzzle, causing deep, wounds.
Authorities believe the bands were used in an attempt to stop the dog from barking. Sheriff Scott Moser calls it “disturbing and unacceptable.”
The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the dog or its previous owner. Anyone with information is urged to contact Deputy Bullock at (804) 633-5400 or provide an anonymous tip through Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
