Stafford County supervisors approved two money matters Tuesday in a fairly short meeting.
First, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously in favor of a 1.5 percent bonus for county social services employees.
Virginia’s state budget for the current fiscal year included money for a bonus for these employees, with Stafford’s share being $46,405, county officials said. Another $18,561 in federal funds and $36,031 in county monies will be added to that to cover the $100,997 overall estimated cost.
A total of 93 full-time employees and five part-timers will get the bonus, which goes to anyone hired on or before June 30.
Before Tuesday’s vote, Hartwood District Supervisor Darrell English said Stafford’s social services employees are hard workers who have to deal with a lot on a daily basis.
“They well deserve this,” English said.
Aquia District Supervisor Monica Gary said she’s also seen the difficult tasks social services workers face.
“There’s a lot that they deal with, and they need our support,” Gary said.
She said she hopes Tuesday’s vote is a starting point for supporting those workers further. Also, on Tuesday, the supervisors voted unanimously to raise the towing fee in the county from $135 to $210, bringing local regulations in line with the state code, which changed July 1. That’s the fee that towing companies can charge if they tow away someone’s car.
