In part I of a two-part episode, Patawomeck Tribal Historian Emeritus Bill Deyo goes back to the very beginning, telling the story of how his curiosity led to the creation of genealogies that ultimately supported the Tribe’s bid for state recognition in 2010.
It’s a tale that features familiar characters, such as Pocahontas, as well as a name kept alive generation after generation in White Oak: Ka’Okee.
The Tribe was named a finalist for the INN Insight Award for explanatory journalism.
