The James Monroe Museum in Fredericksburg will host a special program Sunday afternoon from 1–3 p.m. called “Remembering Eliza.” The event honors Eliza Monroe Hay, daughter of President James Monroe.
Originally buried in Paris in 1840, her remains were recently returned to the United States. The program will also recognize the researchers, advocates, and community partners who made that possible, while sharing her story and the Monroe family’s deep ties to Fredericksburg.
The reinternment of Eliza will take place later this month at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond.
