Warm weather delays peak fall color in much of Virginia

The Virginia Department of Forestry says if fall has one constant, it’s this — the timing of fall color is always unpredictable. September’s early chill hinted at an early season, but warm temperatures and well-timed rain and wind have slowed the arrival of peak foliage.

In far southwest Virginia, the Grayson Highlands are nearing their peak color, while the Alleghenies are expected to follow within a week. Other mountain regions are showing only minimal to moderate change so far, as the season continues its gradual shift.
