Update: The junior varsity football game at 6 p.m. will be played. The One-Act theatre production will take place at 7 p.m. Coaches will communicate start times for other team practices. Attendees are encouraged to bring a bottle of water with them because after repairs are complete, the water lines will still need to be flushed. The parent FAFSA night will be rescheduled.
Massaponax High School students had an unexpected day off Wednesday after the administration notified them class would not be in session after a loss of water at the school.
A vehicle accident on Patriot Highway (U.S. Route 1) damaged a fire hydrant and ruptured a water line, leaving the school without water for the foreseeable future, according to an email from Massaponax staff to students and their guardians.
When the message was sent out, some students were already at their buses stops. Buses ran their normal routes to inform students to return home. School officials permitted teachers and staff to work from home.
Officials will make a decision regarding after-school and evening activities by noon. There was no timetable provided for when service would be restored. Superintendent Clint Mitchell said in a text message to the Free Press that he’s hopeful school will be reopened Thursday.
