A Virginia State Trooper — aided by several unidentified Good Samaritans — rescued a 34-year-old Maryland man from a burning Tesla early Friday morning on Interstate 95 in Caroline County.

The crash happened at 7:00 a.m. on Dec. 5, when a 2024 Tesla Model Y ran off the left side of I-95 northbound and struck a tree. Virginia State Police Sgt. S. Page, traveling north at the 111-mile marker, stopped to check on the driver just as the vehicle caught fire. The Tesla’s doors were locked and unresponsive.

Sgt. Page broke a window, cut through an airbag, and — with the help of several Good Samaritans — pulled the driver from the burning vehicle. He then checked the car for additional occupants and confirmed the man was alone.

The driver, Foday Kanu of Upper Marlboro, Md., suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Winter weather conditions are being examined as a possible factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
