Albon brings more than 25 years of experience as an accomplished, results-oriented education leader, according to a news release. His career reflects a strong record of elevating student achievement, developing strong programs and guiding high-performing teams to achieve sustainable results, the release said.
“I am incredibly excited to be joining the Fredericksburg city schools family,” Albon said in the release. “I am particularly excited to be returning to work at the division level and hope to leverage my years of experience at the school building, division, regional and state levels to add support to assist teaching and learning throughout the division. I believe that every learner, educator, and school can grow, and I am excited to be a part of the next phase of academic growth in Fredericksburg city. I sincerely appreciate the trust afforded to me and commit to serving Fredericksburg in the best way possible for many years to come.”
Albon most recently served as assistant superintendent for the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). In this role, he led statewide school-based support initiatives aligned with the Virginia Support Framework.
His leadership included designing school-improvement structures that equip school leaders to provide personalized learning and meaningful support for students in high-need environments. During this time, he also served as VDOE director of STEM & Innovation.
His earlier leadership roles include executive director of the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, instructional supervisor for Amherst County Public Schools and instructional specialist for Lynchburg City Schools. He began his career as a math teacher in Lynchburg and South African College High School.
Albon holds advanced degrees from the University of Lynchburg, where he published his dissertation titled, “Academic Absence Regression: Changes in Mathematical Performance due to Time Away from School.” He holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and education from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Albon to the FCPS family,” Superintendent Marci Catlett said in the release. “He understands the importance of educating all students to reach their fullest potential. He believes in the talent of teachers and their impact on student learning. His leadership will strengthen instructional excellence across every school in Fredericksburg. And he champions the potential in every student.”
