This meeting was postponed from last week. School officials will present the fiscal year 2027-31 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which consists of 89 projects totaling $161.9 million. The FY27 CIP includes 35 projects totaling $97.1 million. The top priorities include Americans with Disabilities access to the athletic fields at Caroline Middle School, building maintenance to meet indoor air quality standards, elevator modernization at the middle school and high school, eight replacement school buses, and auditorium seating at the middle school, among other projects.

The county’s legislative priorities include requesting that the General Assembly urges the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to conduct a comprehensive review of the procedures and timelines to obtain surface water withdrawal permits. The county will also ask its legislators to secure funding for conservation initiatives, promote U.S. Route 301 as a viable alternative to Interstate 95, and to maintain Virginia’s status as a “right to work” state, among other requests.

County staff is recommending denial of the Hazel Run Residential project. The applicant is requesting a rezoning of 22.46 acres that is currently zoned Residential-1 and Commercial-2 to Residential-8 for the development of 127 single-family detached homes. The properties are located on the west side of of Salem Church Road approximately .45 miles north of its intersection with Harrison Road.

Stafford County
Board of Supervisors meeting, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.
- Discussion of the North Anna-Kraken Loop electric transmission project
- Extension of the deadline for paying personal-property taxes
- Presentation on the Stafford schools’ Capital Improvement Plan

The supervisors will continue to discuss Dominion Energy’s North Anna-Kraken Loop transmission project, which would partially go through the county. Stafford residents and elected officials have expressed concern about the work, which Dominion says is necessary to meet the increasing demand for power. The board is also scheduled to vote on extending the deadline to pay personal-property taxes to Jan. 9.
