The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a text message scam circulating in the area. The messages claim to be from local churches and ask recipients to purchase gift cards for the holiday season and then text back the gift card information.
Authorities stress that local churches will not contact individuals by text message to request gift cards or ask for gift card details. This is a scam.
If you receive one of these messages, do not respond, do not click any links, and do not share any personal or financial information. Anyone who believes they have been targeted or may have provided information is urged to contact the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office at 804-633-5400.
