Thinking about giving a coffee mug for Christmas? LibertyTown potter Kevin Rodrigue says buyer beware — that “simple” gift comes with more responsibility than you might think. A truly great mug, he says, is a carefully considered piece: how it fits in your hand, the weight, the balance, the handle, even the way the rim meets your lips. Those details decide whether it becomes the mug or just a mug.
“A lot of thought has to go into it,” Rodrigue says. Get it right, and it becomes a daily companion — the mug that starts mornings, survives commutes, and gets refilled without a second thought. Get it wrong, he jokes, and it’s only a matter of time before it’s re-wrapped and passed along as next year’s white elephant gift.
