Four councilors will take the oath of office after winning election in November. Matt Rowe (Ward 1) and Joy Crump (Ward 2) are joining city council for the last time, while Ward 3 incumbent Susanna Finn (formerly appointed) and Ward 4 rep. Chuck Frye begin new terms… Council will also set the meeting schedule for the coming year and elect a vice mayor, a parliamentary role currently held by Frye.

The board of supervisors will elect a new chair and vice chair. In 2025, William Davis of the Dahlgren District and Cathy Binder of the Shiloh District served as chair and vice chair, respectively. This will also be the first meeting for newly elected James Monroe District Supervisor Bryan Metts.

Under policy manual updates, the board will address the treatment of transgender students. School division staff crafted a policy based on Virginia law requiring each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools that address common issues regarding transgender students. Part of the policy King George will vote on states that division personnel shall refer to each student using only the name that appears in the student’s official record or any nickname commonly associated with the name in the student’s official record. Also, policy states division personnel must refer to each student using only the pronouns appropriate to the sex listed in the student’s official record.

It’s organizational time for the board of supervisors, which has two new members following November’s elections. The supervisors will vote on who will be chairperson and vice chair of the board as well as make appointments to various groups that tackle specific matters in the county and region.
