It took several votes to elect a new chairman and vice chairwoman to Stafford’s Board of Supervisors last week. But that wasn’t the case with the county’s School Board.
That board on Tuesday night unanimously elected a chairwoman and vice chairwoman on one vote each.
Griffis-Widewater District member Elizabeth Warner will chair the board, and Sarah Chase of the Falmouth District will serve as vice chairwoman.
“Thank you so much,” Warner said after being chosen for the leadership post. “I appreciate the support of my board, and I hope that I live up to your expectations.”

Sarah Chase
She is serving in her second term on the School Board after first being elected in 2019.
Warner earned a baccalaureate degree in biology, with a minor in chemistry from Wingate University in North Carolina, according to her biography on the Stafford schools’ website. Then she completed master’s work in microbiology before switching programs to earn an interdisciplinary doctorate focused on cellular and molecular biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her research centered on the pathology and treatment of liver disease.
She has taught high school biology and chemistry, and, at UNCC, she taught classes in biology and microbiology.
Chase was re-elected in November to a third term on the board after first being elected in 2017.
She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgetown University, according to her official biography, and a doctorate in cognitive neuropsychology from Rice University. Her research focused on speech and language deficits.
Chase and her family settled in Falmouth in 2000. She has worked as a psychology professor at the University of Mary Washington and St. Marys’ College of Maryland.
