Prince William County Supervisor Margaret Franklin has been elected to the House of Delegates in a seat representing part of Stafford County, according to unofficial results Tuesday night.

A special election was held in Virginia’s 23rd House district, which includes portions of the two counties, and Franklin, a Democrat, easily bested GOP nominee Verndell Robinson.

Franklin collected 2,773 votes to 810 for Robinson, a Prince William real-estate agent and Navy veteran, according to figures from the Virginia Department of Elections.

The Democrat, who also previously sought her party’s nomination in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, carried every Stafford precinct in the district.

“I’m honored to represent District 23 in the Virginia House of Delegates!” she posted on Facebook. “Thank you to every volunteer, supporter and voter who made this possible. I’m ready to get to work and serve District 23 with purpose and dedication!”

The 23rd District seat opened because Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger last month named Democratic Del. Candi Mundon King as Virginia’s next secretary of the commonwealth.

The secretary manages gubernatorial appointments, clemency requests and constituent services.
