Deputies Joseph and Wallace were on scene when the suspect’s vehicle slammed into Deputy Joseph’s cruiser on the driver’s side. Deputy Joseph had just re-entered his vehicle moments before the impact and was not injured. The driver fled but was located a short time later by Deputy Wallace and taken into custody. Because a Sheriff’s Office vehicle was involved, Virginia State Police are investigating the crash.
The Orange Sheriff’s Office says it is releasing details of the incident to underscore the dangers deputies face during routine traffic stops and to remind motorists to slow down, move over for emergency vehicles and never drive impaired.
