The Massaponax boys basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 68-50 loss to Norview Friday night at Norfolk State University.
The Panthers (22-7) trailed by one, 13-12, after the first quarter, but were outscored 22-10 in the second quarter as the Pilots took a 13-point lead into intermission.
Massaponax’s deficit grew to 51-32 after three quarters of play, and it drew no closer than 16 points in the fourth quarter. The Pilots move on to face Green Run, a 62-46 winner over Stone Bridge Friday, in the state championship game Thursday at 8 p.m. at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center.
The Panthers had a memorable campaign that included the Commonwealth District tournament championship and the Region 5D title, which is the school’s first ever regional crown.
