The Stafford Education Foundation invites the community to a morning of fitness, advocacy and connection at the Mental Health Matters 5K & Fun Run on May 16 at John Lee Pratt Park.
Held in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the event will support mental health resources, grants and initiatives benefiting students and educators across the Stafford schools.
The family-friendly festivities will begin with a Fun Run for children younger than age 12 at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K race. Participants of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to attend, whether running for a personal best, enjoying a meaningful walk with family and friends, or in memory of a loved one.
Families or groups with three or more runners will receive an automatic 10% discount on registration costs. Early bird discounted registration pricing is available through April 15.
Beyond the race course, attendees will have the opportunity to visit resource tables hosted by the Stafford schools, sponsors and local mental health organizations offering wellness materials, mindfulness tools and information about services available throughout the community.
“Events like this remind us that supporting student success goes beyond the classroom,” foundation board President Jessica Marschall said in an announcement of the race. “By bringing the community together around wellness and awareness, we are helping ensure that students and educators have access to the support resources they need to thrive.”
Local businesses and organizations are invited to partner with the SEF as event sponsors. Sponsorship levels are available from $500 to $10,000. Current sponsors include Critical Management Solutions at the Gold level; Apple Federal Credit Union and Marschall Accounting Services LLC at the Bronze level; and The Green Mission Inc. as a Top Runners sponsor.
Additionally, community members may make donations in honor or memory of family and friends.
